This year marks the exciting emergence of ITP Collaborative projects between two cultural creatives, inspired and ignited from the 2010 Convening.

As Lisa Schubert of Cathedral of St. John the Divine describes, “When the Council of Pronghorn installation arrives in the nave of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, it will bear witness to our humanity and our changing world– all conversations which were sparked by Maggie Kaplan and the Invoking the Pause Project.”

The Value of Water Project will open in September of 2011 and, in addition to Council of Pronghorn, will feature the work of 40 contemporary visual artists. Installations include the work of Jenny Holzer, William Kentridge, Kiki Smith, Bill Viola, Pat Steir, Gregory Amenoff and more.

The central theme of the exhibition is “The Value of Water: Sustaining a Green Planet,” and the artists explore this vital “element on which all life depends, creator and destroyer of cities, and the most powerful metaphor in art.”

“Part of the message of the exhibition is that the value of water is not only political and economic, but aesthetic and emotional.

“As the most faithful mirror of light, water acts as an artist, breaking light into glittering bits on a white-capped lake or turning a vivid sunset into a sea of blood.

“The human gaze is always turned to water; artists just look harder.

“This exhibition is about water as artists perceive it, responding within the terms of their discipline: to not only look but see, and to think with the imagination.”

In this way, the Invoking the Pause project has inspired a new approach to the climate change movement yet again: to inspire ardent change from a vantage point of beauty, bringing activists and artists together in a shared cause.
